Instinct for Ruin

A moth went searching for a flame,
a forest prayed for lightning,
a cage went in search of a bird,
a ship sailed straight into the storm,
a matchstick dreamed of gasoline,
a coastline waited for erosion,
a glass heart longed for the floor,
a wolf lingered beside the trap—

all when I went looking for you.
